Position Description
An Operations Manager will be a new, but essential, role for the MPO. Historically, these tasks have been completed by volunteers, often playing musicians of the MPO and Board members. Over the past several years, we have grown our revenue to support a permanent position to help us manage the organization and improve the experience for our musicians and audience. We are seeking candidates interested in leading the MPO into the next stage of organizational development, with the guidance and support of the Board of Directors.
The core responsibilities for this position will be serving as the overall operational leader and project manager for the MPO, ensuring that tasks necessary to our operations are completed. The MPO hosts 3 ticketed concerts each year and up to 3 free additional community concerts, which include a children’s concert and summer concerts. For the 10 weeks prior to each concert, musicians rehearse Tuesday evenings. In addition to these core responsibilities, the Executive Director and Operations Manager will oversee our operations and production, marketing and communications, and development and fundraising.
About the MPO
Founded in 1993, the MPO is America’s first LGBTQIA+ orchestra and, for over 30 years, has fostered community for orchestral musicians and audiences in the Twin Cities region. Our mission is to provide diverse arts entertainment of the highest quality, resulting in increased visibility for the musical talents of the LGBTQIA+ community. Our vision is to provide membership with opportunities to serve our local community through: (1) musical performances of the highest quality, which feature works by underrepresented composers, including LGBTQIA+ artists, women, and people of color; (2) informing and educating our audience about the relevance of the music we perform; (3) affirming and showcasing the talents and capabilities of the LGBTQIA+ community; (4) supporting the efforts of other LGBTQIA+ organizations; and (5) creating healthy social opportunities for people to be themselves safely, openly, and honestly. The MPO is a member-driven organization, managed by a Board of Directors elected by the musician-members of the orchestra.
