It’s time to spritz on that Enjoli as the MPO kicks off its 17th season by getting in touch with its feminine side. (If you know what Enjoli is, you’ve dated yourself – but we won’t tell!) To celebrate Grrl Power, we have orchestral works by women composers as well as some great repertoire inspired by women of legend and lore. From Smetana’s tone poem about the mythological woman who swears vengeance against the entire race of men (yikes!) to Bizet’s gorgeous incidental music for a play in which the title character doesn’t even appear on stage (?), this concert will bring out your inner Helen Reddy. The MPO is also proud to offer the premiere of local composer Sarah E. Miller’s orchestrated song cycle about the desires, frustrations, and successes of Everywoman.

Composer Work
Sarah Miller She Just Wants (premiere of orchestral version)
Denise Broadhurst Slipstream (2002 MPO commission)
Bedrich Smetana “Sarka” from Ma Vlast
Pyotr I. Tchaikovsky “Waltz” from Eugene Onegin
Georges Bizet L’Arlesienne Suite No. 1
